Save copper telephone lines!

EMF Safety Network and Ecological Options Network filed these comments to the Federal Communication Commission (FCC) in WT Docket 17-84 on why copper lines must be retained and maintained. The FCC is discussing “retirement” of the copper line telephone system.

1. Copper landline phones save lives.
Copper landlines work when the power is out, fiber optics don’t. In an emergency, with no power, no phone, and no 911 services, people will be at risk for life threatening situations. Who will pay the price for this aggressive push to end copper landline service?
Seniors
Businesses
People with Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity (EHS)
Low income people
Residents of rural areas
Hearing impaired
People who want a choice

2. Copper landline phone systems cost less.
A fiber optic VOIP system requires internet service, computer, router, VOIP device, plus a phone. A VOIP system costs more to purchase, maintain, and replace worn out devices. A VOIP uses more electricity. A copper landline phone is simpler and more cost effective because it only requires a phone.

3. Cell phones are not safe substitutes for corded copper landline phones.
Independent peer-reviewed published science links cell phone radiation to the risk of adverse health impacts, including cancer.
The National Toxicology Program found an increase in brain tumors from exposure to cell phone radiation. http://ntp.niehs.nih.gov/results/areas/cellphones/index.html
The BioInitiative Report reviewed 2000 peer reviewed published studies and found an increased risk of brain cancer from cell and cordless phone radiation. www.bioinitiative.org

We don’t have plastic heads

Everything wireless is tested on a plastic head
Designed by engineers back in 1996
They put salty fluid in it – set their timers for six minutes and if at six minutes
The temperature hasn’t risen more than 2 degrees
They declare the product safe for you and for me
Who don’t have plastic heads – We don’t have plastic heads.

Captured agency: An expose of the FCC

Norm AlsterInvestigative journalist Norm Alster exposes the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in a new 59 page paper published by Harvard University.  “Captured agency: How the Federal Communications Commission is dominated by the industries it presumably regulates.”  http://bit.ly/FCCcaptured

Alster calls on the FCC to acknowledge there may be wireless health risks, to back off wi-fi promotion, to acknowledge children and pregnant women may be more vulnerable and more.  Excerpts:

Perhaps the best example of how the FCC is tangled in a chain of corruption is the cell tower and antenna infrastructure that lies at the heart of the phenomenally successful wireless industry.

Personally, I don‘t believe that just because something can be done it should heedlessly be allowed. Murder, rape and Ponzi schemes are all doable but subject to prohibition and regulation. Government regulators have the responsibility to examine the consequences of new technologies and act to at least contain some of the worst. Beyond legislators and regulators, public outrage and the courts can also play a role but these can be muffled indefinitely by misinformation and bullying.  Norm Alster

Berkeley passes cell phone ordinance!

Not on your body, not in your pants!

Photo credit: Environmental Health TrustThe City of Berkeley passed a “right to know” ordinance on Tuesday.  Cell phones sold in Berkeley will come with a safety warning:

To assure safety, the Federal Government requires that cell phones meet radio frequency (RF) exposure guidelines. If you carry or use your phone in a pants or shirt pocket or tucked into a bra when the phone is ON and connected to a wireless network, you may exceed the federal guidelines for exposure to RF radiation. This potential risk is greater for children. Refer to the instructions in your phone or user manual for information about how to use your phone safely.

Activists confront FCC’s new chair Thomas Wheeler

EMF activists confronted the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) new head chairman, Thomas Wheeler in Mountain View and Oakland yesterday.  The FCC sets the standards on wireless safety. Wheeler is a wireless industry leader and has buried the science on wireless health impacts. With Wheeler at the head of the FCC, there’s little chance for safe oversight.

In Oakland, Wheeler was greeted by grim reapers.  “At one point, he [Wheeler] wandered the wrong way after being followed and questioned by an activist, and found himself surrounded by protesters shouting, “Wheeler buried the truth now we bury the dead.” He quickly scurried away, knowing that the truth was out there. He looked like a frightened animal and you could see the pain in his eyes. It can’t be easy to sacrifice people’s lives for profit.” Read the full story about the protests at Stop Smart Meters!

Protest FCC Chair Wheeler Thurs. Jan. 9th SF Bay Area

From Stop Smart Meters!

WheelerThomas E. Wheeler, recently appointed by President Obama as Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), will be speaking in Mountain View and Oakland, CA on Thursday, January 9.

Join planned protests and speak out against increasing wireless health damage.

Fox in Charge of the Hen House: From 1992- 2004, Wheeler headed the wireless industry lobbying group, the Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association (CTIA).  During his stint at the CTIA, his own scientists told him that cell phones were causing brain tumors. He buried the data and fired the scientists.

Wheeler buried the truth.  Now, we are burying the victims.

Mountain View Event

1) Wheeler will be speaking in Silicon Valley at the Computer History Museum – 1401 N. Shoreline Blvd. in Mountain View. Protest outside starts at 11am, event is from 12-1pm (it is a free Commonwealth Club event and is now open to the general public.)

WE NEED YOU TO COME WITH SIGNS AND YOUR VOICES! We would also like to see babies, toddlers, preschoolers, teens, etc at both events. A funeral procession will be held for the victims of wireless technology. Dress in Black!  Media will be there and we need to get our message across.

Oakland Event

Wheeler will be speaking at the Preservation Park Niles Hall at 1233 Preservation Park Way in Oakland at 7 pm. We will hold a rally at the main entrance on 12th St. starting at 6pm.  Tickets to this free event are sold out but the public is free to attend the rally.

Again, bring your signs, voices, children, grandchildren and friends. Media will be there also. A funeral procession will be held for the victims of wireless technology. Dress in Black!

What we want:

  • adequate health warnings on wireless devices
  • a complete ban on wireless radiation in K-12 schools
  • a recall on ‘smart meters’
  • repeal of the 1996 Telecom Act
  • research-based wireless health standards
  • Chair Wheeler to step down from the FCC
  • Most of all, we want people to be told the truth- WIRELESS KILLS.

Please join us and spread the word to as many as possible.  We look forward to seeing you there!  If you have any questions about these events, or you are a member of the news media please call 925-285-5437 or 360-201-3959

Thank you so very much & we hope to see you all next week,

p.s. please spread the word through social media- we depend on grassroots efforts to make events like these a success!

FCC’s Tom Wheeler in Oakland CA. on January 9

WheelerOn Thursday January 9th, 2014 at 7pm- Thomas Wheeler, the head of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) will be waiting to hear from you in Oakland, CA.

According to the event hosts, Voices for Internet Freedom,  Wheeler “needs to hear how policies on media ownership, the Internet and journalism affect our nation’s most vulnerable communities. This is our chance to tell him face to face about the kind of media system that best meets our needs — and to advocate for the health and well-being of our families and our communities.”

The FCC sets the safety guidelines for electromagnetic radiation which is emitted by a myriad of products, from cell phones, towers, wi-fi, smart meters and baby monitors. The US government has partnered with industry to bring us all these products under the disguise of safety- where truly the safety does not exist.

Wheeler has serious conflicts of interest:

  • Wheeler chaired the CTIA, the Wireless Association, which includes Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile;
  • Wheeler chaired the National Cable Television Association, which includes Comcast, Time Warner, and others;
  • Wheeler was the director of Core Capital Partners LP, a venture capital firm that manages $350 million in the high-growth technology sector- they rely on friendly regulation at the FCC;
  • Wheeler is listed on Fierce Wireless’ top ten list of people who helped shape the wireless industry.

This event will feature a panel discussion, commentary from community members, and remarks from FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler, California Public Utilities Commissioner Sandoval, and other guests.
