Physicians group says smart meters effect health: “The evidence is irrefutable.”

aaemAn international organization of physicians and scientists recognize smart meters are harming people’s health.  They say, “The evidence is irrefutable.” and call for further research, accommodations and avoidance of smart meters.  This new statement is based on a review of cases by Dr. Lamech in Australia. Here’s their recently adopted statement: Smart Meter Case Series

“Founded in 1965 as a non-profit medical association, the American Academy of Environmental Medicine (AAEM) is an international organization of physicians and scientists interested in the complex relationship between the environment and health.

AAEM physicians and physicians world wide are treating patients who report adverse, debilitating health effects following the installation of smart meters, which emit electromagnetic frequencies (EMF) and radiofrequencies (RF).

The peer reviewed, scientific literature demonstrates the correlation between EMF/RF exposure and neurological, cardiac, and pulmonary disease as well as reproductive disorders, immune dysfunction, cancer and other health conditions. The evidence is irrefutable. Despite this research, claims have been made that studies correlating smart meter emissions with adverse health effects do not exist.

The AAEM has received a case series submitted by Dr. Federica Lamech, MBBS, Self- Reporting of Symptom Development from Exposure to Wireless Smart Meters’ Radiofrequency Fields in Victoria.  AAEM supports this research. It is a well documented 92 case series that is scientifically valid. It clearly demonstrates adverse health effects in the human population from smart meter emissions.

The symptoms reported in this case series closely correlate not only with the clinical findings of environmental physicians, but also with the scientific literature. Many of the symptoms reported including fatigue, headaches, heart palpitations, dizziness and other symptoms have been shown to be triggered by electromagnetic field exposure under double blind, placebo controlled conditions.  Symptoms in this case series also correlate with the Austrian Medical Association’s Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Treatment of EMF Related Health Problems.

It is critically important to note that the data in this case series indicates that the “vast majority of cases” were not electromagnetically hypersensitive until after installation of smart meters. Dr. Lamech concludes that smart meters “may have unique characteristics that lower people’s threshold for symptom development”.

This research is the first of its kind, clearly demonstrating the correlation between smart meters and adverse health effects.

Based on the findings of this case series, AAEM calls for:

  • Further research regarding smart meter health effects
  • Accommodation for health considerations regarding smart meters.
  • Avoidance of smart meter EMF/RF emissions based on health considerations, including the option to maintain analog meters.
  • A moratorium on smart meters and implementation of safer technology
  • Physicians and health care providers to consider the role of EMF and RF in the disease process, diagnosis and treatment of patients.

Passed by the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Environmental Medicine October 23, 2013

  1. It’s really weird. I moved into a trailer and three months later I was having symptoms of not being able to sleep thru the night, and odd quivering in my body with no outward signs. I went to the Doctor she told me to exercise.
I had a smart meter just a few feet from the head of my bed on the outside of my trailer. I moved my bed to the opposite corner of my house. I’m waiting for a meter guard. I hope it will help.
The power guy I talked to told me to move to a different house. Oh sure. $$$
People don’t know about the impact of smart meters. When you try to tell them they look at you like you are crazy. I don’t know what to do.

  2. A smart meter was placed outside my bedroom window in a mobile in Oct, 2017,, In 10 days I had to leave my home! They replaced w/one that is now giving me dirty electricity, I can barely use computer to research, cell on airplane mode! hard wired in to everything, Landline phone! still sick! my car is making me sick! I have loud ringing in ears! eyes burn, walk around in a daze most of time! house, yard, dog all going downhill real fast! i am giving a radi interview in my town on Thur. 23,, 2019! i have been to supervisor of our town, I have called Gov. finally they gave me a Lady they send me to her name is Charity! She told me I have NO options! I cannot believe that we, as U.S.A have NO options! I have not see allot of fighting going on, all of these posts are OLD!????Is there a new site I can check out! I am loking for people who want to fight together!

  3. Hi, I am currently suffering tremendous anguish and permanent damage from an AMR, otherwise known as a “smart meter”. I was never sick a day in my life until SCWA installed the device in my basement without permission back in January of 2010. I didn’t know it was in my house, never mind how dangerous this device is. The FCC, code 15, subpart C, prohibits the installation of these devices without notifying and getting permission from the homeowners. They must be transparent and alert the public as to the health risks and possible sickness, disease and disorder that may come of being exposed to “pulsed radiation” at extreme lengths and frequencies. We are guinea pigs in the industry and these are crimes, on multiple levels, against humanity. It is unbelievable that there is a complete disregard for our health and privacy, not to mention our children’s safety. I am outraged and speaking out locally, and calling state and federal agents and agencies alerting them by sharing copious amounts of literature and information. We cannot sit back and allow these corporations to make billions off of our sick backs. The government was lied to and sold a bill of goods that are worthless, and we are paying for it, paying to make ourselves sick. How low can they stoop. I am a formidable opponent and I am not making friends in the utilities industry by alerting my community on how to “OPT OUT” and how to remove the meters or cover them with metal. Please be aware of your rights, call your congressmen and women and make a stink about this most heinous of crimes being committed against mankind. Sincerely, S. Burke

  4. I began to experience severe headache and eye pain in end of July, beginning of Aug. 2012. I have seen my PCP, ENT, Opthalmologist, Neurologist and Neurosurgeon who have not been able to determine the orign. The neurologist is my fiancee and he says it could be migraines but not typical, as I have pains shooting up from back from my skull into my back of my eyes. Initially the worst pain I have ever experienced. I continue to have eye pain and headaches. Ironically, I had never heard of smart meters until April 2014. I thought I’d check my house and there is a smart meter on my house. I contacted NES and was informed they placed it on my house July 27,2012 the week my head ache and eye pain began. In addition I am experiencing leg jerking. I have spent the day passing out a flyer I typed up and been walking door to door today to educate my neighborhood. NES will not remove it from my house. I have sent an email to News Channel 5 and to Senator. I would like to join my organization and would like to be able to measure the frequencies in my home.

  5. Try the American Academy of Environmental Medicine (AAEM) referral search for a doctor in your area. See left side bar. http://aaemonline.org/
AAEM has taken a strong stand against smart meters. See the following posts:

    http://emfsafetynetwork.org/american-academy-of-environmental-medicine-calls-for-a-halt-to-wireless-smart-meters/
Print these out and bring with you to the doctor visit.

  6. The AAEM stated they would post the studies when they were published- still waiting for that. Meanwhile there are some simple steps you can take that are free, for example turning off electricity at the breaker box. Low cost: replacing cordless phone with a corded phone. Turning off devices, using cell phone for emergencies only.

  7. I’m struggling with trying to understand if EMF’s are really affecting my health (which is very, very bad, and seemingly getting worse every day). Yet I’ve spent thousands of dollars over the years and am now on medicaid, so before I could borrow any money to buy EMF protective devices or grounding pads (?), I need to know more.

Where are these double-blind studies mentioned in this article? If I you could post a link to those, then that might convince my family and friends to help me out.

    Thank you.
