Electrical Sensitivity (ES) is also known as Electrosensitivity, Electromagnetic Sensitivity (EMS), EMF Sensitivity, Electrical Hypersensitivity (EHS), Microwave Sickness, Wireless Stress Syndrome and Rapid Aging Syndrome. A key determining factor in evaluating whether or not someone has ES is how they feel away from EMF and RF and whether or not their health symptoms improve with prudent avoidance.
Symptoms: The symptoms of ES vary widely with each person, depending on the strength, type and length of exposure as well as exposure to other toxins in the environment, individual constitution and basic health practices. Symptoms can be mild to severe and include: sleep problems, tinnitus, chronic fatigue, headaches, concentration, memory, learning and immune system problems, heart palpitations. nausea, joint pain, swelling of face, neck, eye problems, rashes, and cancer.
- Suggestions for healing:
- Practice Prudent avoidance of electricity, electromagnetic fields and radio frequencies
- Reduce or eliminate cell, cordless phone and wi-fi use (unplug and remove)
- Use a corded phone and wired internet connections (confirm the DSL router is wired)
- If necessary move away from high EMF or RF environment (power lines, cell towers)
- Sleep in an electricity free bedroom- turn off the electricity at the breaker box.
- Sleep in a metal free bed. Consider a wool bed.
- Reduce electrical exposures as much as possible throughout the house by turning off breakers at the breaker box.
- Remove dimmer switches, CFL’s, fluorescent lights.
- Install filters to mitigate “dirty electricity”. Stetzer, and Green Wave sell filters. (This is not an endorsement, and people with EHS have differing reactions to filters.) It is best if you can turn off the electricity at the breaker box.
- Use a notebook computer on battery with an external (wired) keyboard and wired mouse (never use the computer on your lap)
- work offline when possible
- Have your home, car and work tested for EMF and RF (click here for a detailed review of meters to buy or rent)
- Alternative health care can be very beneficial: Chiropractic, acupuncture, herbs, massage.
- Eat fresh, local, and organic foods.
- Follow all rules for basic good health and take it slow: Healing comes with time and distance
- Work with policy makers to create responsible public policy to reduce EMF and RF in the environment.

Hi,
Thank you all for the great work you have been doing.
I got electrosensitive exactly 2 years ago.
From my experience and from the experience of many other EHS people, the Steszer filters you are recomending actually harm many EHS instead of help. If I go to a room with filters I actually loose feelings in my legs and my brain is stressed. Money report the same reaction. While they may help some they can harm others and so I would not have recommended them. Furtheremore, they emit VERY high magnetic fields which by themselves are causing damage to EHS people. PLEASE remove this recomendation.
Thank you
I recognize some people do not use or advise the stetzer filters. I have them installed on my home, 8 filters outside the house below the breaker box and about 7 scattered throughout where the electricity is on. Yes, they emit a magnetic field, as does electricity/ electrical wiring. I found the EMF field is slightly extended from the filter, but the overall reduction in RF on the wiring- feels to me in my body- more the benefit. So your comment is important to note that for some they cause adverse feeling, and others not.
Thank you, Sandi
Take the viewpoints of 2 different building biologists on the filters.
One is that the Stetzers themselves add to the harmonics:
http://www.emfrelief.com/capacitive-filters.html
and that may be why some people are made more ill by it.
Another is that Stetzers can be bad when there are wiring errors in the home
http://www.createhealthyhomes.com/cellphone_chips.php
and thus exacerbate magnetic field issues.
I once tried checking the magnetic fields, body voltages, and intermediate frequencies with and without Stetzer filters. I think the result varies with the electrical environment. Haven’t figured out exactly as to why, but I decided to unplug them.
I seem to be able to experience electromagnetic sensitivity when operating specific automobiles and under certain cell phone conditions.
My doctor dismisses this as something anxiety-related and proposes that I seek counseling. (In all fairness, it seems true that many of the reported symptoms DO MATCH symptoms associated with anxiety.)
My counselor says there’s no good point to pursue counseling if there is a potentially real physiological issue with electromagnetic energy.
Soooooooooooooooooo…
I can’t prove anything and I can’t get help.
I’d like to get involved in a real study, meet physicians that have seen other cases, and get scientific help with this matter. Most web writing on this subject is unsubstantiated. Many “solutions” to the problem seem to be scams. Who is helping to make this issue “mainstream”; that we’ll find answers and take corrective actions?
Cars have different technologies- newer cars are loaded with RF sensors and cars have different EMF fields. Doctors need to be educated: Here’s a new study, posted in Shortcut to Science:

Abstract
As the prevalence of wireless telecommunication escalates throughout the world, health professionals are faced with the challenge of patients who report symptoms they claim are connected with exposure to some frequencies of electromagnetic radiation (EMR). Some scientists and clinicians acknowledge the phenomenon of hypersensitivity to EMR resulting from common exposures such as wireless systems and electrical devices in the home or workplace; others suggest that electromagnetic hypersensitivity (EHS) is psychosomatic or fictitious. Various organizations including the World Health Organization as well as some nation states are carefully exploring this clinical phenomenon in order to better explain the rising prevalence of non-specific, multi-system, often debilitating symptoms associated with non-ionizing EMR exposure. As well as an assortment of physiological complaints, patients diagnosed with EHS also report profound social and personal challenges, impairing their ability to function normally in society. This paper offers a review of the sparse literature on this perplexing condition and a discussion of the controversy surrounding the legitimacy of the EHS diagnosis. Recommendations are provided to assist health professionals in caring for individuals complaining of EHS.
Highlights
► Many people report symptoms when near devices emanating electromagnetic fields(EMF). ► Electromagnetic hypersensitivity (EHS) research has generated conflicting outcomes. ► Recent evidence suggests pathophysiological change in some individuals with EHS. ► EHS patients consistently report profound social and personal challenges. ► Clinicians need to be apprised of the EHS condition and potential interventions.
Dealing with allergies to electricity definitely can and has made life miserable or unbearable at times. I believe it was around 2011 when I developed allergies to electricity, and I want to share a few tips that helped me with my ES. Being in a humid and warm environment is better than being in a dry and cold environment. I only have mild symptoms so I use a humidifier and just the essential amount of heating to help me deal with ES. However, humidifiers and heating do use electricity and I understand that what currently works for me may not work for those with severe ES. Using a spray bottle to spray water in the air to humidify the air is a simple and cheap way to help reduce ES. Perhaps, lighting a candle in the room is a good alternative way to heat up the environment without electricity. I don’t have oogles of money to buy expensive materials or to move to another location, so I wanted to provide inexpensive suggestions for poor people like me.
Candles and a spray bottle with water, 2 cheap and simple ways to help you with ES.
It appears that EMF is the cause of many illnesses that I have not been aware of. I’m using a product called PowerGard that is controlling the in home radiation to a minimal level. It is a easy to install and they have an inexpensive meter to use to check the intensity of the radiation. I would recommend it. http://www.nevvusworld.com/emfbuster
