BC HYDRO Cuts Power for Refusing a Smart Meter: CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT ANNOUNCED

Press release from our Canadian friends at CST:

BC Hydro has taken the draconian step of cutting off power to a customer who refused to accept a wireless smart meter.

Last May, a Hydro customer had a wireless smart meter installed on her home despite her refusal. This person suffers from electro-sensitivity and, as a consequence of the radiofrequency radiation emitted by the wireless smart meter, her health began to deteriorate.

Despite pleading for months with Hydro to remove the wireless meter and to re-install the analog meter; they refused. Finally, with her health in jeopardy, she ordered a non- radiating analog meter from a company in the US that provides calibrated, tested meters to utility companies. With the supervision of a certified electrician the analog was installed, and the wireless smart meter was returned to Hydro.

When Hydro advised that the analog was not approved by Canadian agencies, the customer located a Canadian analog meter that met all the requirements and then asked Hydro to install it. Hydro refused, ignored her health condition and insisted that she must accept a wireless smart meter or they would cut her power.

On April 17, 2013, Hydro followed through with its threats and cut off its supply of power to her home.

Hydro’s conduct constitutes a violation of our autonomy and our right to determine what potentially harmful emissions do or do not occur from within our own domestic environment; our right to be free from physical intrusion by the state.

Due to Hydro’s actions over the last 2 years, culminating with its cessation of service to a customer for refusing to allow the installation of a wireless smart meter, the Citizens for Safe Technology Society and the Coalition to Stop Smart Meters are filing a class action lawsuit.

San Diego Earth Day Fair

2013-04-21 23.59.09On Sunday April 21, Center for Electrosmog Prevention, Stop OC Smart Meters and the EMF Safety Network gathered at the San Diego Earth Day Fair to educate the public about health and environmental risks of EMF and smart meter exposure.

2013-04-22 00.00.10The booth next door to ours was a 350 campaign raising awareness about the oil pipeline and they had a cut out of Obama on their booth which stood right next to the smart meter opt-out sign. It was a nice match.

2013-04-22 00.10.23Only one person came to the booth to argue about safety of smart meters, and the risks of radiation.

Every other person was very interested in having their cell phone measured.  This gave people the opportunity to “hear” the sound of the radiation their cell phone emitted, even when they were not using it.  Android and Iphones seemed to be the worst emitters, with many emitting “pings” and some emitting a wi-fi signal.

And finally here was one fairgoer who was willing to pose for the camera. 2013-04-21 21.59.39

“Take Back Your Power”- a Sebastopol success!

IMG_3070Last night Josh del Sol, Canadian filmmaker presented his new film, “Take Back Your Power- The Smart Meter Agenda Unveiled” at the Sebastopol Center for the Arts in Sebastopol  CA.  About 160 people attended the event.

IMG_3069John Eder, Sebastopol City council member welcomed the crowd, introduced the film maker and moderated the discussion which followed the film.  The panel included Cindy Sage co-editor of the BioInitiative 2012 Report,  Michael Neuert EMF electrician, Take Back Your Power director, Josh Del Sol, and EMF Safety Network director Sandi Maurer.

Cindy Sage, co-editor of the BioInitiative Report, and EMF Safety Network advisor said,  “The campaign against smart meters is an international movement that started right here in Sebastopol!”

The event was a fundraiser for the film.  After expenses were paid, $2,600 was raised, with a pledge of more donations to come!  Josh del Sol expressed his tremendous gratitude for the support for the film. “I’m so grateful to the people of Sebastopol and to the EMF Safety Network for pre-screening this important film here.  The film is nearing completion and our intention is to share this empowering documentary with the world!”

Dave Hubert, local resident said, “The film, though 90 minutes long, had me glued!”

Three years ago one of the first smart meter forums was held at the very same building by Sonoma County Supervisor Efren Carrillo. At that time people were being forced to have the smart meters, and PG&E refused to remove them for people with health complaints. Much outrage was expressed.

This year comments and questions for the panel included why is this grid being rolled out worldwide; a local doctor said she is seeing many more patients with nervous system problems; and a suggestion was made to create a medical registry for people injured by EMF’s.

About the film Take Back Your Power:
“Over the past eighteen months in shooting and developing this film, it became clear that the issue of “smart” meters is of critical importance at this time in our world. We’ve been largely kept in the dark about it – aside from the information from a growing number of concerned and aware groups have helped bring to light. It’s time this subject matter is brought out for public discussion and properly understood, so we can decide if this is a direction we’d like society to take.

“Our project started out as me and my cameraman friend doing several interviews with people experiencing health symptoms following the installation of an electricity meter. Over 70 interviews from 4 countries later, it’s now evolved into a full-length feature film about 90 minutes in length, with a Tom Clancy-esque plot.

“It’s our intention, with this film, that the rest of the world could have access to understand what’s at stake in this issue, as it relates to the direction that the people would like our society to take, at this time.“

What to expect in the film:
“We decided to go a direction that stays ‘on-track’ and focused on the ‘smart’ grid and metering issue, and the areas of our lives for which there are profound implications. This topic is also quite complex. While we did vast amounts of research leading to a discussion of the larger context of and history behind the “smart” grid, we decided not to go too far in this direction in the film. So the film stays highly accessible to all ages and backgrounds, and as many people as possible can benefit from the discussion and be empowered to participate.

“I feel that it’s time to have this topic properly covered in an accurate and entertaining film – one which connects the dots and asks important questions of the audience – and I’m very glad to be getting the film released and publicly available.”

Injured by smart meters? Class action lawsuit forming

9/2015 UPDATE to this post. The video has been removed. The lawsuit was unsuccessful.

——–

In this video Jerry Day interviews Liz Barris about the upcoming class action lawsuit she’s coordinating against California utilities SCE and PG&E for health damages from smart meters. This lawsuit may be extended to other CA utility companies soon.

“Those industries, businesses and individuals who profit from wireless technologies, such as your power company, are suppressing information about the hazards of wireless technologies. They are attacking proponents of responsible wireless management and they are knowingly exposing the public to harm and damage hoping that the general public and the media will refuse to believe the obvious and proven connection between electromagnetic radiation and biological damage. Because of the wireless industry’s irresponsibility and wrongdoing, unfortunately, legal actions have become necessary.”

Speak Up! Oppose Smart Meters and Extortion “Opt-Out” Fees at the CPUC on Thursday April 18th 9:30 am

From Stop Smart Meters: We need to continue to tell the CPUC that smart meters and their mesh network are unacceptable and should be recalled!  Come to the next business meeting in San Francisco!

At the last CPUC meeting, Commissioner Florio stated that, “We will not tolerate consumer abuses in any shape or form.”

That is really fantastic news. Let’s hold the PUC at their word.  They can start by taking action against current utility abuses such as:

  •  giving people who pay hundreds of dollars to ‘opt out’ a wireless- transmitting ‘trojan horse’ meter that looks like an analog meter (especially SCE)
  •  threatening to disconnect people who insist on their right to an analog meter
  •   forcing people to spend 1-2 or more hours on the phone simply to “opt out”
  •  failing to respect the democratic decisions and laws of local governments who represent the public in the areas these companies do business
  • threatening homeowners with analog meters who let their dogs out in their own yard with disconnection of their electricity (SDG&E)
  •  refusing to remove smart meters mounted on the wall even with a doctors’ recommendation (do the utilities know better than our doctor what is a health threat?)
  •  allowing smart meter surveillance and selling the collected data to third parties
  •  using our homes for commercial purposes (mesh network) without informed consent
  •  lying about how often smart meters transmit pulsed radiation
  •   forcing smart meters on businesses without informed choice or consent
  •  utility employees spying on activists and then forwarding ill-gotten messages to CPUC staff who do nothing about it?

We look forward to this brave new CPUC who is willing to stand up for the rights of the public.  Let’s hold them to their word.

April 18th 9:30am (arrive by 9:15am) CPUC Meeting 505 Van Ness Ave. (at McAllister) in San Francisco.  Members of the public are guaranteed at least 1 minute to speak if they arrive before the end of public comment.

Special Film Showing in Sebastopol on Wed. April 17 at 7pm “Take Back Your Power: The “Smart Meter” Agenda Unveiled”

promo-tbyp-ver11The EMF Safety Network presents a special pre-release screening of the film “Take Back Your Power:  The “Smart Meter” Agenda Unveiled”, by Canadian director Josh Del Sol on Wednesday April 17 at 7pm.  The film will be followed by a panel discussion, at the new Sebastopol Center for the Arts.

This eye-opening documentary feature film investigates the “smart” meter program being rolled out worldwide without the people’s consent. The film uncovers alarming issues about health, privacy, property rights, corporate fraud, and the unprecedented vulnerability of the “smart” grid. You will leave with a deeper understanding of the motives behind the agenda and proven solutions for coming together and co-creating a healthier world.

Following the film there will be a Q and A panel discussion moderated by Sebastopol City Council member John Eder.  The panel includes Cindy Sage co-editor of the BioInitiative 2012 Report,  Michael Neuert EMF electrician, Take Back Your Power director, Josh Del Sol, and EMF Safety Network director Sandi Maurer.

This is a great opportunity for people to learn why the City of Sebastopol and a dozen other cities and counties in California made Smart Meter installations illegal.

This event is a fundraiser for the film. Donations requested, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds.
